A teacher from Muliliza Primary School in Nsanje is the father of a four-month-old baby born to his 16-year-old pupil whom he defiled repeatedly at her parents’ home, according to a deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) test result.

The DNA test was done on May 15 2014 at Unistel Medical Laboratories Limited (Unistel) in South Africa.

The teacher, Saidi Goba, is currently on police bail. He denied responsibility of the pregnancy, but is on suspension from duties.

In his interpretation of the lab results, chief medical officer for Nsanje District Hospital Dr. Medson Matchaya said the teacher had unprotected sex with the girl as she reported earlier on the promise of a promotion to two classes higher.

“All 15 markers in this case were compatible with paternity and, therefore, Saidi Goba is confirmed with reasonable certainty that he is the biological father of the child. This discrimination is calculated to be at least 99.999 percent,” said Matchaya.

Nsanje Police officer-in-charge was unavailable for comment yesterday on the progress of the case.

The girl’s father allegedly caught the teacher red-handed on August 3 last year having sex with the minor.

He was apprehended by neighbours and later surrendered to police.

The DNA was funded by donations from well-wishers following the teacher’s denials that he was responsible for the pregnancy.
